Built from work first — not AI first.
The Academy’s perspective comes from a career progression through trade work, trade business, training and assessing, supervision and statutory supervision. AI came later.
Experience First. AI Second. is the operating principle.
The Academy is being built around a simple proposition: people who understand the work should remain at the centre of workplace AI. Technology can help with speed, structure, language, analysis and first drafts. It cannot inherit trade competence, site context, supervisory authority, statutory responsibility or accountability.
Trade
Understanding work from the practical end: tasks, equipment, constraints, standards and consequences.
Trade business
Understanding customers, commitments, planning, documentation, commercial realities and responsibility for outcomes.
Training & assessing
Understanding how adults learn, how capability is developed and why evidence matters when assessing what someone can actually do.
Supervision & statutory responsibility
Understanding that leadership and statutory roles carry obligations that cannot be delegated to a language model.
AI does not know what responsibility feels like.
It can produce polished wording without knowing your plant, your people, your site conditions, what changed on shift, what authority you hold or what the consequence of an incorrect decision could be.
That is why Academy material repeatedly separates assistance from authority.
The Academy position
AI can draft the handover. Experience determines whether it reflects reality.
AI can organise information. Competence determines whether it is technically meaningful.
AI can identify questions. The supervisor determines what requires action.
AI can assist the work. It cannot inherit statutory responsibility.
